Meet Our Children

Most of our children come to us from the courts in Guatemala. They are taken from their families because they are being sexually or physically abused, or because they are being severely neglected. Many are from single mom families and are being abused by mom's boyfriend. Or mom does not make enough money to support and feed them. Drug usage by their parent is common. Their biological family is given first option to take custody, but they have to prove themselves capable of caring for the child[ren]. Sometimes this works out [ 30%] and the children go home after having been with us for a year or more. The suitable relatives are always allowed to visit. Sometimes this doesn't work out, but the family won't relinquish custody so the children are with us long term, possibly to the end of childhood[30%]. Sometimes the judge orders termination of parental rights and the children are available for adoption. The younger ones usually are adopted fairly quickly. The older ones are not so fortunate and may live with us to the end of their childhood.

For reasons of confidentiality, some details are not provided on some children. If you have questions about adoptability, please email us and we will release specific information to your adoption agency.
